Apple Week and Green Ribbon Week

Apples
This week we will be studying about apples and Johnny Appleseed. This is always a fun week for the kids and for the teacher! A note came home today asking for help with supplying the apple products for our apple tasting on Thursday. When I compile the notes from all of the parents, I will give out assignments and send another note home showing which thing you were assigned. Thanks in advance for all of your help with this.

Green Ribbon Week
This week we will be talking about safety when walking to and from school. It will be Green Ribbon Week! Here is what the Eastlake email said about it in case you didn't get a chance to read it.

Today begins Green Ribbon week at Eastlake Elementary!
Our school will have Green Ribbon Week September 22nd - 26th to promote awareness of child pedestrian safety, and to educate our students, parents and community about this safety issue.
  • Each day a safety trivia question will be announced. Students have the opportunity to answer the question and put their answer in a bin labeled Safety trivia in the office. The next day the previous question and answer will be given along with a name drawn for an Eastlake Frisbee, the new question will then be given.  We will post the questions here, along with the answers. Please take the time to talk with your students about the answer.
  • Caught Being Safe--teachers, student patrol, crossing guards, Light House leaders will be giving tickets to children AND parents, CAUGHT BEING SAFE, these tickets can be placed in a box labeled, Caught Being Safe, in the office for the chance to win the grand prize of the week--an Eastlake Blanket, Frisbee, Rubik's Cube and Backpack!!****
  • Friday instead of Red & Black Spirit Day will be CRAZY GREEN SAFETY DAY. Have your students wear GREEN!!!
If you have not already turned in your child's and your pledge form, please do so this week!

Homework
-One thing I wanted to tell you about, is that many of the homework pages being sent back do not have a name on them. Most of the time the children are able to identify their own homework, but sometimes they can't. Please make sure to check your child's work before sending it back to school. Have them write their name clearly and in normal size letters.

-Fluency Homework: Remember that your child will receive 4 points for practicing fluency Monday-Thursday and then 4 points for answering the questions on the back.

***P.E. will be on Wednesday. Make sure that your child is wearing appropriate shoes.

***Library is on Thursday, so please make sure that your child brings their library book back that day.

Thanks again to all of the wonderful volunteers that have been coming in all month. I can see what a huge difference your time is making on the children's progress.

As always, email me with any questions or concerns.
